VBS Day 2

We felt a lot more organized and structured for today.  However, we are still struggling with a few cultural differences.  The children are in and out all the time and see to show up for snack and craft.  We did do a lot more singing today and had a wonderful skit. The children were laughing and answering our questions so we know that they are listening.  We also talked about what sin we have in our lives and how we can try to change those bad habits we have.  We see evidence of change in behaviors, but there is still much room for improvement.  Your prayers for these children and our message would be greatly appreciated.

We also were supposed to have mother's Bible study before VBS, unfortunately, not 1 mother came.  That was very disheartening!  We are told that it could be several reasons:  1.  This is a more Catholic area and our message is Protestant.  2.  They are not interested in hearing the message.  3. This is really the first time a group has come to the village for these purposes and they are still leary as to what we are doing.

We will try again tomorrow.  Please pray for this ministry as well.

Clinic Day 2

Some improvements in the logistics at the clinic have greatly improved our service.  Today we saw over 115 people, many children.  The providers are seeing many cases of children with no appetite.  However, at all hours of the day you will see children at the tienda buying soda and chips!  We understand that much of our American culture is moving this direction.  The kids love junk food and the mothers are not making nutritious meals or serving fruits and vegetables.

Prayer Requests and Answered Prayers

For patient Jennifer who is struggling within the community.

For our VBS message.

For Aaron, our "pastor", who is providing wonderful spiritual care for the church in San Pablo but will soon return to the US and seminary training.

For our printer that is not cooperating. We know the Lord has plan, but we're not sure what it is yet!

For our families back home.

For Diet Coke

For medicines which brought healing and relief to many patients today.

For the woman with the ulcer who has turned her worries over to Jesus.

Thanksgiving for the numerous blessings we have in the US that we take for granted, like indoor plumbing.

For safe keeping of the construction crew as they completed the roofing, doors and windows ahead of schedule.

Things we have learned today....

How to say key phrases in Spanish, like Stop, when you ask the children to line up for snack.

How to "flush" the toilet.  (Ask Carmen and Sue)

Driving around here can be "mucho" dangerous and never dull.

Some families walked for an hour or more to get to the clinic, or rode their burro.

God's timing is not our timing.

God may be preparing you today, for something you'll understand10 years from now!

We certainly learned a lot at VBS today. Children are the same all over the world. It did take much longer to get name tags on children than we expected.  In fact, children kept coming in an hour into VBS.  We introduced our ongoing story of taking care of God's creation and the factory that is polluting the environment.  Then we connected that with the story of the women with many sins  who was forgiven by Jesus. Many of the children already know Jesus, but some do not. The cross puzzles were a big hit!  At 5:10 we realized we were already over our time by more than half an hour.  We think we'll see most of the children back tomorrow, but we have already learned that we need to simplify our schedule. Lots of smiles and great stories to tell when we return.
